Terms of use and data licence

1. What this site is

ImportGap turns India's official import statistics into a ranked list of manufacturing opportunities, with start-up guides. It is for research and education. It is not financial, legal, tax or investment advice. Check licences, schemes, limits and rates on the official websites we link to before you act.

2. Data sources and licence

Source data. Import values and source countries come from the Department of Commerce, Government of India (TradeStat, compiled by DGCI&S), published at tradestat.commerce.gov.in. The underlying statistics remain the Government's; always cite the Department of Commerce as the original source.

Our dataset. The compiled tables, growth rates, opportunity scores and category groupings published by ImportGap are released under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International licence (CC BY 4.0). You may copy, share and adapt them, including commercially, if you credit: "Source: ImportGap (importgap.in), based on Department of Commerce, Government of India data."

The written start-up guides, design and code are © ImportGap and may be quoted briefly with a link back. News headlines belong to their publishers; we only link to them.

3. Accuracy

We refresh data automatically from the official source, but figures can be revised, delayed or mis-read. Scores are our own method (see How we score) and are opinions, not guarantees of profit.

4. Accounts

You need a free account with a verified email to see full data and the per-product start-up guides. Keep your password private. Don't share accounts, scrape the site in bulk, try to bypass sign-in or rate limits, or interfere with the service. We may suspend accounts that do.

5. Liability

The service is provided "as is". To the extent the law allows, ImportGap is not liable for losses from decisions made using it.
